Representation Summary:

Early completion of the relief road utilising Cauldwell Lane and the existing bridge over the M1 motorway to reduce traffic and air pollution in Lutterworth town centre.

Full text:

Lutterworth urgently needs a relief road/bypass to take HGV and other through traffic away from the town centre. An air quality management area was established in 2001 covering the A426 through Lutterworth along Leicester Road, Market Street, High Street and Rugby Road. Air quality levels in this area have consistently breached national and international standards.

The plan states that the relief road need only constructed before 1,250 dwellings are completed on the East of Lutterworth development. This not likely to be before 2029 but probably later.

Such a timescale is unacceptable. For the health Lutterworth residents, particularly those who live in the town centre the relief road needs to be completed before any dwellings are completed.

To assist this early completion of the relief road, Cauldwell Lane should be utilised and if necessary upgraded to the appropriate standard to using the existing bridge over the M1. This will save save several GBP millions.
