Reason for Inclusion

Historic Interest

This company was established by Arthur Brown in his garage on Northampton Road in 1951. In the immediate post war years as there was a strong focus nationally on redevelopment and the prioritization of resources for housing, it was not uncommon for industrial firms to struggle to build the premises they needed for their growing businesses. Arthur Brown corresponded with John Baldock (MP for Harborough 1950-59) about the difficulties he faced until securing this walled garden site in Fairfield Road for the factory premises he needed for his growing business.

Architectural Interest

A purpose-built factory still in original use close to the centre of town.

Associative Interest
