Respondent: Mr Neil Blackhall

Representation Summary:

I would like to nominate The Bath House, Cream Cottage, Main Road, Claybrooke Parva as a Non-designated Heritage Asset, please see attached Word document for a summary and the other attachments for supporting information.
Built in the second quarter of the 19th Century. A rare and unusual example of a 19th Century communal bathing facility (see attached photographs).
The bath house is a brick building with a clay tile roof, measuring 7 x 3 metres. It has two bays inside it, the first of which is a heated chamber 2.5 metres square, with a cast iron fireplace. The second room is a bath chamber, which contains a 2.9 x 1.7 metre plunge pool. The pool has four steps leading down to it and is surrounded by slabs of what may be marble.
Believed to have been used by the pupils of Milton College (private school for boys, Ullesthorpe) to bath in each Sunday before attending church.

Reason for nomination
Not explicitly mentioned in the listing of Cream Cottage - see CREAM COTTAGE, Claybrooke Parva - 1209155 | Historic England and the use and character of the Bath house building is completely distinct from the principal listed residential building.

Harborough District Council Local List of Non-Designated Heritage Assets

Representation ID: 8277

Received: 03/08/2021

Respondent: The Gliding Centre

Representation Summary:

I would like to nominate Husbands Bosworth Airfield as a non-designated heritage asset to be included on the Local List.
Husbands Bosworth Airfield
Address: Husbands Bosworth Airfield
Sibbertoft Road
Leicestershire
LE17 6JJ
Parish: Husbands Bosworth
Date of Construction: The airfield was constructed in 1942/43 by George
Wimpey Ltd
Original Purpose:
The airfield was named RAF Husbands Bosworth, originally built as a satellite
airfield to RAF Market Harborough. It came under 92 Group RAF and was
home to No 14 Operational Training Unit, later re-badged as No 85 OTU.
Flying commenced in 1943 training mainly on Vickers Wellington aircraft.
The airfield was decommissioned in 1946 and post war the buildings were
used by the National Assistance Board to house Polish displaced persons and
other refugees.
Part of the site is used today as a private airfield by The Gliding Centre,
hosting National and International gliding competitions. Other areas reverted
to farm land.
Reasons for Nomination:
The airfield is a remnant of the war time infrastructure, with contemporary
records and photographs held on site. There is a Role of Honour in the club
house to the flight crew who lost their lives while operating from the airfield.
There are buildings on adjacent land dating from the RAF use, notably 2
Nissan huts to the North of the airfield and the remains of the control tower
and other buildings on the South side of the Sibbertoft Road. Other
fragments include the signal square and parts of concrete runways and
aprons.
RAF Husbands Bosworth is one of 14 Leicestershire RAF stations active during
World War 2 and has links to other contemporary sites in the county, notably
RAF Market Harborough and designated pill box ref WIT/001 in the local
region. It is also recorded by the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust, and
Leicester University have included the Roll of Honour on the site as part of
their Poppy Pilgrimage commemorating those who lost their lives in wartime

Harborough District Council Local List of Non-Designated Heritage Assets

Representation ID: 8285

Received: 08/07/2021

Respondent: KIBWORTH HARCOURT Parish Council

Representation Summary:

1. The full address of the heritage asset you wish to nominate, including the parish in which it is located – if it is a remote site you may wish to include a map. The Lychgate, Kibworth Cemetery, A6 Harborough Road, Kibworth Harcourt
2. Date of construction – if you don't have the precise date please provide an approximate date. Construction may have been in phases so provide as much detail as possible. 1894 by Edward Mason
3. The original purpose for which the site was constructed and how it is used today. Lychgate means corpse entrance, so coffins or shrouded bodies were brought by the sexton on a hand drawn cart (or bier) from one of the three churches in the Kibworths (Congregational, Methodist or St Wilfrid’s Anglican) to rest inside the building until the interment took place. There are benches inside the Lychgate for mourners or funeral staff. It is no longer used for this purpose, so has been locked up for a number of years, but has recently had electricity connected for lighting and is being considered as a local small museum and meeting place for the Kibworth Joint Burial Board.
4. Reasons for your nomination – not all the assessment criteria apply to all heritage assets, but please tell us how your nomination meets the criteria. If you have an historical or contemporary written record to support your nomination, please include it or provide the reference details so that we can look at it. A lychgate building of this size and quality is quite rare and the Burial Board have an ecclesiastical, architectural survey being carried out in July 2021.
5. Please attach an exterior photograph of your nomination. 2 attached – one exterior, and 1 interior.
