Open Spaces Strategy First Stage Issues Consultation
Chapter 7 Aims
- To establish whether the Open Space Strategy should list a series of aims to support HDC priorities and Leicestershire Together outcomes.
- To establish what those aims should be
- To establish how the Aims should be captured in the Open Spaces Strategy
Approach
7.2 To easily demonstrate that the Open Spaces Strategy is supporting Corporate Priorities and Leicestershire Together outcomes it is considered a series of AIMS or Visions should be developed. This is a change from the 2011 strategy, as this listed the open space typologies with a vision and objectives, from which were derived policies and proposals.
7.3 The Leicestershire Together outcomes which are supported by open space provision are shown in 7.5 below and in 12.4.
7.4 By establishing and using the AIMS throughout the strategy it is considered that users will be able to see the immediate link with the priorities of the Council and wider County priorities. Additionally, by splitting out the typologies of open space within the AIMS of the strategy, it can be determined how each typology of open space supports the AIMS.
7.5 The Aims, shown in Table 5, could be :

7.7 It is proposed that simple icons are used throughout the Policies and Proposals of the Open Spaces Strategy to indicate which HDC Corporate are supported. This will ensure the Open Spaces Strategy is relevant and delivering a ‘joined up’ approach to open space planning and delivery. The views of consultees are sought on this approach to structuring the Open Spaces Strategy.
