Q1. Do you have any comments on the Draft Vision?

Representation ID: 4454

Received: 27/10/2015

Respondent: Thurnby And Bushby Society

Representation Summary:

We do not agree that the 'edge of Leicester settlements' are sustainable locations. Further, we think that it is important to prevent urban sprawl which effectively just expands Leicester. This will destroy the identity of the existing settlements of Thurnby, Bushby and Scraptoft, contrary to the desire to keep them expressed in para 148. Also there is limited public transport.
The topography means that Thurnby & Bushby and Scraptoft cannot be regarded as one unit for services and facilities unless a car is available.
The raod system means that there are very few through roads. There is therefore enormous pressure on the A47, Station Road/Lane and the narrow village streets which are totally inadequate for modern traffic volumes. The capacity of the A47 must be more critically assessed then it was for the Core Strategy. An integrated traffic forecast and assessment of the practical constraints in sufficient detail to address these issues is required.

Representation Summary:

Re Objective 3. We support the use of brownfield sites. Development must be located to minimise the use of cars; this means good public transport links must exist.

Received: 27/10/2015

Respondent: Thurnby And Bushby Society

Representation Summary:

Object to option 4, 7 and 8: We object to the Scraptoft/Thurnby SDA as:
(i) it is unfair that this area should take such a high proportion of the District's houses
(ii) it compromises the Scraptoft/Thurnby Separation Area
(iii) Thurnby & Bushby is not a sustainable location for major development despite its proximity to Leicester due to lack of amenities and poor transport links.
iv) The proposed Relief Road is a road to nowhere except perhaps for through traffic going to or from the East.
