SC1 clause 4

I do not understand how it makes environmental sense to build on an existing golf course and create a replacement golf course elsewhere at huge expense and damage to the environment.

I was born on Beeby Road adjacent to the Local Nature Reserve. My earliest memories are that of cows in the field tended by my great uncle William till. Myself and my parents and our dogs have all been a part of this community and have, wherever needed, gave up time to help with local matters concerning the village and LNR.
My father is a member of the golf course and wants it to stay in Scraptoft. The council has refused to re-let the land on which 4 of the golf holes are situated which is a very bullish attitude to all the members, a lot of whom have been members for more years than I have been born.
Leicester council have land, which was at one time also tenanted by SGC and now lies in ruins just north east of the LNR which can be used to facilitate housing rather than ruining the enjoyment and giving a lot of upheaval to members.

Parker's can find land elsewhere beyond the boundaries of the LNR and golf course suitable for housing or simply lower the quota for Scraptoft and surrounding villages. We simply do not have the infrastructure either for this sort of project, the roads are not sufficient, the villages and junctions will become totally clogged with traffic and Scraptoft is a very tight one way road system. Please do not ruin what we have left as recreation and countryside. The LNR has been left alone for years, it has grown and matured and the amazing amount of wildlife within it and around it is all now threatened because of targets, please do not let this happen.

SGC has an illustrious history on its present site and is well known and liked. It provides great recreational facility with added bonus of being part of our Green Wedge.
Leicester City Council has held it hostage over not allowing the lease on 4 holes to be renewed. Golf Club doesn't want to move and we don't want it to! Proposing to build replacement course other side of Houghton seems mad - Harborough need to preserve what we already have and not give in to pressure from Leicester.
Too many provisos listed below to allow for not building replacement anyway!

Scraptoft Golf club is a very popular course to local golf enthusiasts many of whom dont want to move. The owners at the Scraptoft golf club are greedy and dont really need to move

Why close a perfectly good golf course in Scraptoft, to then rebuild one 5 miles up the road. It doesn't make sense

4. Land to the east of Houghton on the Hill, as shown on the Policies Map, is allocated for a replacement golf course

Our comments relate to the area defined on Inset Map 55 (Houghton on the Hill). The boundary shown for the proposed golf course (shaded green with a red boundary) is incorrect and not the area now being promoted for the golf course. The Policies Map should be updated to correspond to the area being planned for the golf course. For clarity, we have attached two plans of the proposed boundary. Plan ST 15452-SO1 shows the proposed site boundary on a 1:10,000 scale Ordnance survey base, the second draws the proposed site boundary on the Inset Map 55 (Houghton on the Hill) to show the changes.
